The Art of Saying No – Protecting Your Time & Energy

Why We Overcommit

Ever said “yes” when you wanted to say “no”?
Overcommitting drains time, energy, and focus.

Some common traps are:
✓ Saying yes to avoid guilt
✓ Desire to please
✓ Lack of boundaries — People pleasing

Saying “no” isn’t selfish. It’s smart! When you say no to the things that drain you, you’re really saying yes — to what matters most. Let’s make February the month you stop overcommitting—and start reclaiming your time.

Step 1: Define What Deserves Your Yes

Before saying “yes,” ask yourself:
✓ Does this request align with my personal goals?
✓ Will it bring stress—or fulfilment?
✓ Does it support Balance in my life?

If the answer is no — that’s your cue to protect your space.

Step 2: Set Boundaries with Confidence

Open your Conversation Starter Library. Under the column for “Random” — create two “go-to” phrases to help you say “no”.

Try these for inspiration:
✓ “Thanks for thinking of me! I’d love to another time—but I can’t right now.”
✓ “I’m honoured, but I have other commitments right now. Let’s reconnect soon.”

Action Step: With the two phrases recorded in your Conversation Starter Library — practice them often, until they become an “easy answer”. Then, in your Intentional Living Canvas™, journal how it honestly felt to stand up and say “no”.

Boundaries aren’t barriers—they’re bridges back to your best self.

Step 3: Use MTCB™ Master Sheets™ to Safeguard Your Time

Daily Master Sheet™ – GoodNotes 6 Widgets are a great way to block your “Me” time and keep you focused versus overcommitting.
Brain Dump Vault – Can you spot any chaos that triggers guilt and leads to overcommitting?
Get It Done™ Master Sheet™ – Is it possible you can delegate something you have already overcommitted on?

Digital Planning & Productivity: The Secret to Sticking to Habits

MTCB™ Digital Planner February Blog Digital Planning & Productivity image featuring team doing a high-five symbolizing success and habit building motivation

Why Creating Better Habits Struggle

We all start with good intentions, but then:
✓ We rely on motivation (which fades).
✓ We make habit building – too big.
✓ We don’t review, update and adapt.
✓ We don’t record our WINS and build momentum to carry on.

We want to build better habits—but struggle to stick with them. The secret isn’t willpower—it’s starting small and making it easier to carry on. Realistic and planned Intentional steps lead the way!

Step 1: Start Ridiculously Small

Most habits fail because they’re too big, too soon. Instead of:
“Exercise daily” → which is overwhelming and hard to sustain
“Take the stairs once a day” → Has small, doable steps and builds momentum

Action Step: Open MTCB’s™ Get It Done™ Master Sheet™ and:
List one small habit to start this week and set the priority. You can use the Lasso Tool in GoodNotes 6 to reposition and reorder your list of priorities.
✓ In the "Notes" column, add tiny steps to make it effortless. (Example: Set workout clothes by my bed.)

Step 2: Track Consistently

Creating new habits is more likely to succeed when you see progress — even the smallest WINS matter. It’s not about doing more—it’s about doing what sticks.

✓ Transfer that new habit to your Daily Master Sheet™ and check it off daily. Use the "Me Time" section to reflect on what’s working and what needs tweaking. This small action will help you transform this new habit into a permanent reality.
✓ Bonus: Captured Moments & Memories™ and our Intentional Living Canvas™ are the perfect places to journal and celebrate your progress.
